Daytona Beach police investigate anonymous speedway bomb threat

DAYTONA BEACH — An anonymous bomb threat was called in to police Thursday afternoon at Daytona International Speedway, but law enforcement swept the area and found no traces of any explosive devices, Daytona Beach Police Chief Craig Capri said.

The caller said multiple devices were on speedway property at 1801 W. International Speedway Blvd., and they were set to go off in 30 minutes, but no detonations took place 30 minutes after the call, Capri said.

The search of the premises took an hour and nothing was found, police spokeswoman Lyda Longa said.

Police obtained a phone number, the chief said, and detectives are working to identify and locate the caller.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Daytona Beach Police Department's Criminal Services Division at 386-671-5202.

The speedway is hosting NASCAR this week for events culminating in the Coke Zero 400, scheduled for 7:30 Saturday night. (from)
