Money in the Bank 2017: Time, TV schedule for WWE pay-per-view event

Money In The Bank has regularly been one of the best shows on the WWE calendar since its inception as a standalone pay-per-view event, and this year looks like it will be no exception. WWE set a high standard of quality for Money In The Bank a year ago, but this year’s WWE SmackDown-exclusive card looks like it could potentially beat it, bringing a show full of high-stakes matches, and a little bit of history for good measure.

The show is named for the Money In The Bank ladder match, where the winner gets a guaranteed shot at the WWE Championship at a time of their choosing. The history being made in this show comes in the form of the first-ever Women’s Money In The Bank ladder match, a match featuring three former WWE title holders in Becky Lynch, Charlotte, and Natalya, plus Tamina and Carmella. It’s a big, big moment for the women of SmackDown, one that could propel the entire women’s division forward in an important way over the coming year.

That match isn’t the only big women’s match on the card, though, with Naomi defending the WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship against Lana, who will have her first main-roster singles match after being part of a 10-woman tag team match during the WrestleMania 32 pre-show. Naomi has been looking strong as a champion, but the complete unknown of what Lana brings to the table means no one can be sure if the champion will retain, especially with the potential threat of Lana’s husband Rusev lurking.

The men have some major matches, as well, of course, with a heck of a group vying for their own Money In The Bank briefcase. AJ Styles, Shinsuke Nakamura, Sami Zayn, Kevin Owens, Baron Corbin, and Dolph Ziggler is a diverse and fascinating group to have in this match, with no clear favorite for who will win, and so many different directions the match can go in. They’ll be closely watched by both Randy Orton and WWE Champion Jinder Mahal, because whomever comes out on top of their grudge match for the biggest title in the company will have to watch their back for whomever climbs the ladder and claims that blue briefcase with a massively valuable contract inside.

The tag team division on SmackDown can’t be left out, either, with the Usos hoping to continue their run of dominance atop the show’s tag teams by taking out the returning New Day. This is the first title match on SmackDown for The New Day, who are hoping to start a new title reign after losing their record-setting reign earlier this year. It promises to be a hard-hitting match between two of the best tag teams in the world right now, and it should be a whole lot of fun.
