Maha Ragunath, Medical Director of Fertility Care, one of the IVF clinic, said, "The number of single women for this procedure has doubled over the past ten years. At least ten percent of my patients today are single women," said Ragunath.
Ragunath said that most patients who undergo IVF, although still a virgin, not a busy woman pursuing a career. He said, the average patient was very young. "Most of them are very young woman, aged 20 years. Many are still in college, some are already working, and some are still living with their parents," he added.
"When I asked why they were doing this procedure, the most common answer is that they want a child, but did not want to wait until the right partner to arrive. There were never underwent a relationship and never had sexual intercourse," he said.
"They are very happy and do not care about the effect of having a child, or whether it would affect their relationship in the future," he said.
For IVF procedure, said Ragunath, patients are charged 5,000 pounds, equivalent to Rp 112 million.
However, these procedures have gained wide criticism and opposed by many people. Therefore, many are looking at this option as underestimating the process of becoming a mother.
